SIP recently saw a variety of events that provided foreigners in SIP with opportunities to experience Chinese culture related to the Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year.
At Dulwich College Suzhou, the students watched lion and dragon dances and kung fu performances, wrote Spring Festival couplets, and tried to make Tanghulu, a traditional Chinese snack made out of fruits skewered on bamboo sticks that are coated in a crispy shell of sugar.
Suzhou Singapore International School, an international K-12 school in SIP, held events with different kinds of performances and cultural experiences for students of different ages. It is worth mentioning that the magical face changing in Sichuan Opera amazed the students and the faculties.
In SKEMA Business School (Suzhou), 40 students from France, Russia, Cameroon and other countries made dumplings together.
In the event at Renmin University of China Silk Road School, the participants not only made dumplings, but also wrote Spring Festival couplets.
Karolina Pawlik, an assistant professor at Academy of Film and Creative Technology of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, was deeply impressed by the event held by SIP Public Cultural Center at Suzhou Industrial Park Railway Station, where traditional Chinese calligraphy and rubbing techniques were shown.
