A diversity of events were held in SIP recently to celebrate the Chinese Lantern Festival which, reckoned on the fifteenth day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, fell on Feb 12 this year.
In the event at SIP Cultural Centre, the participants guessed riddles on lanterns, and even tried to make a fish-shaped lantern by themselves.
In the event at SIP Library, a group of children read a picture book to learn about the origin of the festival and folk customs related to it.
A concert integrating music and poetry was staged at Jiuguang Department Store to express the best wishes for the audiences in a special way.
The fair held at Suzhou Center Mall offered the participants a chance to learn about 25 traditional techniques recognized as intangible cultural heritage and sample delicious local snacks.
HB World, a film-themed entertainment complex, was full of beautiful festive lanterns which brought about a visual feast.
The sub-districts of SIP also hosted various events which offered the participating residents opportunities to learn to make lanterns, guess riddles, and know better about culture related to the festival.
It is worth noting that, in the event in Sijixin Community in Jinji Lake Sub-district, freshly boiled yuanxiao (stuffed small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour) were given to on-demand food delivery workers along with thanks for their services.
