The “Celebrating the Spring Festival with Intangible Cultural Heritage in SIP” Series, which are designed to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival, kicked off in SIP on Jan 18.
The Chinese Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year, is reckoned on the first day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, and will fall on Jan 29 this year. SIP has planned tens of events including performances, fairs and commercial activities to ensure local residents enjoy a happy festival.
The 2025 Spring Breeze Action was launched, with a series of events offering diverse cultural experiences.
A number of intangible cultural heritage experts showed up at the first event of the Series, showcasing fantastic handicrafts such as embroidery and paper-cutting to the participants. Jin Guorong, a master in industrial art, presented to SIP a work featuring patterns cut out in silk and paper plus painted background.
The fair gathered traditional painting pigments, traditional costumes, xuanjuan (a traditional storytelling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect), lianxiang (a traditional Chinese folk dance performed by dancers with bamboo or wooden sticks in hands) and other intangible cultural heritage elements. A children’s dance and a pingtan (storytelling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect) performance were staged.
