The exhibition themed “The Fluttering Poem” opened at Suzhou Eslite Bookstore, SIP on Apr 12, showcasing a series of works by Wang Xuetong, a Chinese artist and illustrator. The exhibition will last till June 8.
Wang holds a master degree in illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her works have earned international accolades including the United Kingdom’s Derwent Art Prize for young artists and honors from the Society of Illustrators (SOI) in the United States. She has collaborated with multiple globally renowned brands on cross-disciplinary projects.
Wang is apt at transforming the mundane into visual poetry brimming with humor and childlike wonder through graffiti-like strokes, thereby elevating everyday moments into whimsical vignettes that vibrate with playful energy.
Half of the space of the exhibition hall is occupied by sketches that the artist drew during travel. Among the exhibits are works inspired by the lattice windows of ancient architecture in Suzhou and the eight aquatic plants that are specialties of the city.
The artist showed up at the opening ceremony, sharing her travel experiences and the sources of inspiration for her art creation.
