Suzhou Symphony Orchestra (SZS) is doing rehearsals at Suzhou Jinji Lake Concert Hall in SIP for the chamber music concert to be staged at the China Cultural Center in Brussels, Belgium on Jan 24.
The performance will be part of the “Happy Chinese New Year·Charm of Jiangsu” event jointly sponsored by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the China Cultural Center in Brussels for the purpose of promoting Jiangsu’s cultural and tourism resources, and also an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of China-EU relations under the 2025 “Happy Spring Festival” program of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China.
SZS created the works to be performed at the concert in collaboration with Chen Qiangbin, a professor at Department of Composition of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, based on eight parts of “The Peony Pavilion”, a classic work of Kunqu opera, one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera.
The music will be performed with flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, and drum, and young artists from Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre will share the stage.
