Loufeng Sub-district hosts an event to mark World Book Day

SIP’s Loufeng Sub-district recently hosted an event to mark the World Book Day which, also known as World Book and Copyright Day, is celebrated annually on Apr 23 across the world to promote reading, publishing and copyright. The event offered over 300 participants a chance to know better about traditional Chinese culture.

The event started with a folk song and a folk dance given by local troupes, followed by a list of performances such as Kunqu opera and pingtan that have been recognized as intangible cultural heritage. And a video on intangible cultural heritage was shown on site.

The “Reading Bus”, a bus with books and seats for readers, attracted many children who read together with their parents.

Lectures on Kunqu opera and pingtan were given for people interested in them to gain a better understanding of their evolution over time and learn basic performing skills.

The participants also had the opportunities to try traditional Chinese silk tapestry weaving, papercutting and other handicrafts.

An exhibition of learning outcomes from the local university for the aged was held concurrently, and consultancy on applying to the university was provided. Additionally, information on kindergarten enrollment and local administrative services were offered.
